Yet God has chosen to reveal Him to us so that we can know Him truly and personally.

Jesus is the Son of God. The Bible says, «In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God» (John 1:1). A little later, it says, «And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us» (John 1:14). Jesus is not just a teacher or a prophet, but God became man. «For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin» (Hebrews 4:15).

He is also the Creator. «All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made» (John 1:3). Paul writes that «all things were made in him… all things were made through him and for him» (Colossians 1:16). Jesus does not stand outside history as an observer, but is the origin and goal of all creation.

At the same time, He is the Savior. «For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost» (Luke 19:10). The Bible shows us that all people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). That is why Jesus came to bear our sin. «But he was wounded for our transgressions… the chastisement of our peace was upon him» (Isaiah 53:5). On the cross, He took what rightfully belonged to us, opening a way back to God. «For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life» (John 3:16).

Jesus is not just the one who died; He is the one who rose again. «He is not here, but is risen..» (Luke 24:6). The resurrection shows that the power of sin and death has been broken. Paul writes that «He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised for our justification. He was delivered over to death for our transgressions and was raised for our justification» (Romans 4:25). Therefore, Christian faith is not primarily a set of thoughts, but a life in communion with a living Lord.

He is also Lord. «At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father» (Philippians 2:10–11). Calling Jesus Lord means recognizing His right to our lives. He not only saves us from something, but to a new life under His loving leadership. «My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand» (John 10:27–28). He leads, protects, and preserves.

Jesus also reveals who God is. «…He who has seen me has seen the Father…» (John 14:9). In Him we see the heart of God. We see how God meets sinners with grace, the sick with care, and the outcast with dignity. «God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us» (Romans 5:8). Jesus is the love of God made visible.

He is the way to God. «I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me» (John 14:6). This is not about exclusivity in hardness, but about God Himself having given us a concrete and safe way. Salvation is not something we build ourselves; it is given in a Person. «For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved» (Acts 4:12).

Finally, Jesus is the one who will come again. The angels said at the ascension, «This Jesus…will come again in the same way» (Acts 1:11). History is moving toward a goal where He will fully establish His kingdom. «And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, «Behold, the dwelling place of God is with mankind, and He will reside with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.»’ (Revelation 21:3). Hope is not just an inner hope, but a future reality.

As I try to put this together, I see that Jesus is true God and true man, Creator and Savior, Lord and Shepherd, Sacrificial Lamb and King. He came out of love, lived in obedience, died in our place and rose for our justification. In Him we receive forgiveness, new life and eternal hope.

To learn who Jesus is is not just to understand a doctrine, but to get to know a living Person. And in the encounter with Him I notice that the heart is bowed in gratitude, for «of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace» (John 1:16).

Når jeg leser Bibelen og forsøker å forstå hvem Jesus er, merker jeg at jeg står overfor noe større enn jeg fullt ut kan romme.
