When we say, «Jesus is my Lord,» we are saying something much bigger than just believing in Him. The Bible teaches that Jesus is not just a teacher, a prophet, or a helper—He is Lord. «Therefore God also highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name» (Philippians 2:9). To call Jesus Lord means to acknowledge who He is and to give Him the right to our lives.
The Bible shows that salvation begins with this. «If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved» (Romans 10:9). Receiving Jesus as Lord means not only believing that He exists, but trusting Him as Savior and surrendering your life to Him as Lord.
For a new believer, this may initially feel like finding a new foundation. Jesus doesn’t just become a part of life—He becomes the very foundation. «For no one can lay any other foundation than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ» (1 Corinthians 3:11). This means that our identity, our hope, and our future rest in Him.
For those who have followed Jesus for a long time, the Lordship relationship often deepens. It is more and more about trust in all areas of life. Jesus said, «Why do you call me »Lord, Lord,« and do not do what I say?» (Luke 6:46). This is not said to condemn, but to invite us into a life where we let Him shape our thoughts, choices, and direction. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17). When Jesus is Lord, we get to live in God’s guidance, grace, and power.
Having Jesus as Lord also means that we no longer live only for ourselves. «He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for him» (2 Corinthians 5:15). This does not mean that we lose ourselves, but that we find who we were truly created to be.
«"For whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord" (Romans 14:8).
Living with Jesus as Lord is therefore a life of relationship, trust, surrender and love. It is a life where we learn day by day to say: not only my will – but your will, God. As Jesus himself prayed: «… not as I will, but as you will» (Matthew 26:39).
And throughout life, this truth is allowed to grow deeper: Jesus is not just my salvation from sin.
He is my Lord, my way, my truth, and my life (John 14:6).

Baptized in the Holy Spirit

The Bible speaks of the Holy Spirit with a reverence that both comforts and challenges. The Spirit is not a force in an impersonal sense, but God present and active. Jesus refers to the Spirit as the «Advocate» (John 14:16–17), the one who teaches and reminds (John 14:26), the one who...
